Function and technical context
Velox Plus antifouling in 250 cc format is a high-performance underwater protective coating designed to be applied to boat hulls, propeller shafts, propellers and submerged metal surfaces. Its main function is to create a biocide barrier that prevents the adhesion and proliferation of encrusting marine organisms - such as barnacles, mussels, algae and bryozoans - that colonize the hull during its stay in the water. By keeping submerged surfaces clean, this antifouling preserves the hydrodynamics of the boat, avoiding the increase in drag caused by fouling and which directly translates into greater fuel consumption and loss of top speed. The white presentation and the 250 cc volume make it especially practical for touch-up work, localized maintenance or small boats where a larger amount of product is not required.
When to apply or renew this antifouling?
The most obvious sign that the antifouling coating has exhausted its useful life is the visible appearance of biological fouling on the hull – barnacles, algae or calcareous deposits – that do not come off with a simple pressure wash. It is also advisable to renew the coating when, after beaching the boat, it is observed that the existing paint has lost uniform thickness, presents general peeling or the flotation band shows severe discoloration. As a general rule, self-abrasive or contact type antifoulings must be renewed at the beginning of each nautical season or, at most, every twelve months in areas of high biological activity; In waters with lower fouling pressure, the cycle can be extended up to eighteen months after sanding and evaluating the state of the previous layer. Applying a coat of maintenance before each season is the most economical way to avoid costly hull cleanings and possible damage to the hull laminate.
