YAHAMA ANODE 67C-45251-00
Description
Function and technical context
The sacrificial anode is an essential cathodic protection component installed in the outboard motor housing that prevents galvanic corrosion of aluminum and steels in contact with salt water. This element works within the anti-corrosion protection system, oxidizing in a controlled manner instead of the base metal of the engine, thus preventing structural deterioration of cylinders, cylinder heads and critical internal components. Its progressive degradation acts as a direct indicator of the level of active protection in the cooling circuit and in the submerged areas of the propellant: when it is completely consumed, galvanic corrosion begins to attack the metal parts of the engine, compromising the tightness and durability of the propulsion equipment.
When to replace this part?
The anode should be inspected at the end of each boating season and replaced when it has lost 50-75% of its mass or exhibits aggressive surface corrosion. In waters with high salinity or in boatyards with poor external cathodic protection, consumption accelerates significantly, and may require replacement even within the same season. Prevention through periodic replacement prevents irreversible damage to the cylinder head and cylinders, which results in repairs at a much higher cost than the replacement anode.
