Function and technical context

This water pump kit is part of the outboard engine's water cooling system, responsible for circulating seawater through the engine block to evacuate the heat generated during combustion. The water pump is the heart of this circuit: its impeller, housing and seals work in continuous contact with salt water and sand in suspension, which causes progressive and inevitable wear. If the pump loses flow or fails completely, the engine quickly rises in temperature, activating the overheating thermosensor and, if not stopped in time, can cause serious damage to the cylinder head, pistons or liner gaskets. The kit includes all the necessary renovation elements - impeller, casing, gaskets and seals - to restore pumping performance to factory levels on Suzuki DF25 V-Twin (since 2006) and DF20 engines, covering manufacturer references 17400-95J00, 17400-95J01, 17400-95J02 and the current reference 17400-95J03.

When to replace this part?

The most common symptom of a damaged water pump is the absence or reduction of the cooling water jet ("pililo") at the engine outlet spout: if the jet is weak, intermittent or high in temperature to the touch, the impeller is worn or the fins are broken. As a general rule of preventive maintenance on Suzuki outboards, it is recommended to check and renew the water pump kit every 300 hours of navigation or every two seasons, whichever comes first. Replacing the assembly preventively, especially before a season of intensive use or after sailing in waters with a lot of sediment, avoids a cooling failure at sea that could compromise both the engine and safety on board.
