This 17 x 30 x 6 mm oil seal operates in the outboard motor lubrication system, acting as a tight barrier between oil-filled zones and the exterior of the propulsion unit. Its purpose is to prevent lubricant from escaping through rotating shafts, avoiding both oil pressure loss and contamination of surrounding water. A deteriorated seal directly compromises the integrity of the dynamic closure: if oil escapes into the water or combustion chamber, the motor can suffer severe damage from insufficient lubrication. This component is especially critical in Suzuki outboard motors of the DF and DT series, where proper shaft sealing ensures the performance and reliability of the assembly while underway.

When to replace this part?

The most common symptoms of a faulty oil seal are the appearance of oil stains or traces in the shaft area, descending oil level without apparent cause, and possible evidence of cross-contamination between lubricant and cooling water. It is recommended to inspect the seal at each seasonal service interval and replace it whenever work is performed on the shaft or the sealing area is disassembled, as the rubber lip loses elasticity over time and operating hours. Changing the seal preventatively during scheduled maintenance is the best way to avoid major failure at sea, where an oil leak can completely disable the motor.
