ANODE DISC 130 mm
Description
Function and technical context
The 130 mm disc anode acts as cathodic protection of the hull and the submerged metal elements of the boat, sacrificing itself electrochemically to prevent galvanic corrosion from attacking more critical parts such as propellers, shafts, keels or metal hulls. It works in the passive anti-corrosion protection system, placing itself directly on the hull or at strategic points of the structural work where the difference in electrical potential between different metals generates destructive galvanic currents. Its correct installation and periodic replacement is essential: if the anode is completely consumed without being replaced, galvanic corrosion begins to attack the structural and propulsion components of the boat, generating irreversible damage with high repair costs. With reference CMR-5 and a diameter of 130 mm, this disc anode offers an adequate sacrificial surface to protect specific areas of the hull or propulsion appendages.
When to replace this part?
The clearest sign that the anode needs to be replaced is when it has lost between 50% and 60% of its mass: from that point on, the cathodic protection capacity decreases dramatically. It is recommended to inspect the anodes at least once a season, ideally at the annual beaching, and replace them whenever they show significant wear, regardless of the time elapsed, since the aggressiveness of the water (salt, brackish or fresh) varies depending on the navigation area. Replacing the anode preventively at each seasonal tune-up is the most economical measure to avoid costly repairs to shafts, propellers or hulls once in the water.
