Description

Function and technical context

The Gori TEN01028 sacrificial anode is part of the boat's cathodic protection system, acting as an electrochemical shield that corrodes in a controlled manner to protect submerged metal parts—propellers, shafts, keels, engine legs and metal hulls—against galvanic corrosion. This process occurs naturally when different metals come into contact in an electrolytic medium such as seawater or brackish water, generating potential differences that progressively destroy the most noble components. By installing the anode at strategic points on the boat, this sacrificial element concentrates the corrosion on itself, leaving the structural and propulsion components intact. Its correct operation is critical to preserve the mechanical integrity of the propulsion assembly and avoid irreversible damage to high-cost parts.

When to replace this part?

Sacrificial anodes must be inspected at the beginning and end of each nautical season, and replaced when they have lost approximately 50% of their mass, present a very irregular surface, or show completely consumed areas that leave the surfaces they are intended to protect exposed. An exhausted anode or one that does not make good electrical contact with the part it protects can leave the propeller, shaft or motor leg completely unprotected, accelerating its degradation until an expensive replacement is necessary. The professional recommendation is not to rush the total consumption of the anode: replacing it preventively every season - or sooner if the use has been intensive in waters with high salinity - is the most economical measure to guarantee the useful life of the Gori propulsion components.
