Function and technical context

Sacrificial anodes are fundamental elements in the cathodic protection system of any boat: their function is to sacrifice themselves electrochemically to protect the most valuable metal parts - propeller, shaft, hull, transmission leg - against galvanic corrosion produced by prolonged immersion in salt, brackish or fresh water. The Gori anode with reference TEN01025 is specifically designed for the protection of Gori brand folding and reduction propellers, widely used in sailboats and motor boats for sports and cruising use. Being a more active metal than stainless steel or bronze, the anode corrodes first, preventing galvanic corrosion from attacking the structural components of the propeller and propulsion system, which would be considerably more expensive to replace.

When to replace this part?

The most obvious symptom of an exhausted anode is its visible reduction in mass: when the anode has lost around 50% of its volume, it must be replaced immediately, since its protective capacity is compromised. Nautical professionals recommend checking and renewing the propeller anodes at least once a season, coinciding with the annual beaching of the boat, although in waters with high conductivity or in boats with several electrical systems on board an intermediate review may be necessary. Preventatively replacing the TEN01025 anode before it is completely depleted is the most economical measure to avoid corrosion of the Gori propeller and the costly repair or replacement work that comes with advanced galvanic attack.
