Function and technical context

The sacrificial anode is the key component of the boat's cathodic protection system: its mission is to oxidize in a controlled manner to protect the noble metal parts of the hull, propeller, shaft and transmission against galvanic corrosion produced by the action of salt, brackish or fresh water. Being made of a metal with a more negative electrochemical potential than stainless steel or bronze, it attracts corrosion to itself, sacrificing itself instead of the structural and mechanical elements of greater value. Without correct anodic protection, parts such as the tailshaft, propeller or engine support can suffer irreversible damage in just a few sailing seasons, generating costly breakdowns and compromising safety on board. The Gori anode with reference TEN01022/1 is specifically designed to be integrated into the Gori brand propeller and shaft line protection system, guaranteeing effective protection and perfect dimensional compatibility.

When to replace this part?

The wear of a sacrificial anode is completely normal and to be expected: when the mass of the anode has been reduced by around 50% compared to its initial size, it must be replaced immediately, since below that threshold its protective capacity decreases drastically. The condition of the anodes should be checked at least once a season, taking advantage of the annual stranding; In areas with especially aggressive water or in boats with greater electrical activity on board, it is advisable to inspect them every six months. Preventatively replacing the anode before it is completely depleted is the most economical measure to avoid major repairs to the shaft, propeller or transmission accessories.
