Description

Function and technical context

This cooling anode with plug for Aifo engines acts as a galvanic protection element in the water cooling circuit of the marine engine, sacrificing itself electrochemically to protect the internal metal components - liners, blocks and collectors - against galvanic corrosion caused by immersion in salt or brackish water. Integrated directly into the block or housing of the cooling circuit, the included plug guarantees a hermetic seal of the housing, preventing coolant losses and uncontrolled water entry into the system. If this component is completely used up without being replaced in time, electrolytic corrosion attacks the noble metal surfaces of the motor, potentially compromising the tightness of the circuit and causing serious breakdowns such as perforation of sleeves or clogging of water pipes.

When to replace this part?

The most obvious signs that the cooling anode is exhausted are the appearance of reddish or greenish deposits in the water circuit ducts, the presence of pitting on internal metal surfaces and, in advanced cases, small coolant losses. For Aifo engines operating in saline or brackish waters, it is recommended that the cooling anodes be inspected and replaced at least once per season or every 200-300 hours of operation, whichever comes first. Replacing this anode preventively at each annual tune-up is the most effective measure to avoid irreversible damage to the engine block and high-cost repairs.
