COOLANT YELLOW
Description
Function and technical context
This yellow coolant acts as a heat transfer fluid within the closed fresh water circuit of the marine engine, transferring the heat generated by combustion to the exchanger and thus regulating the working temperature of the block. Its specific formulation incorporates corrosion inhibitors specially designed to protect aluminum components—heads, blocks and liners—against electrochemical oxidation that accelerates the marine environment. A coolant in poor condition or exhausted causes corrosion deposits in the water galleries, loss of thermal dissipation capacity and, in extreme cases, severe overheating with deformation of the head gaskets and structural damage to the engine.
When to replace this product?
Marine coolant should be renewed when the liquid appears cloudy, reddish brown or with suspended particles, unequivocal signs that the inhibitors have been depleted and internal corrosion is already active. As a preventive interval, it is recommended to change the coolant every two seasons or every 300-400 hours of operation, whichever occurs first. Renewing it at each scheduled maintenance cycle is the most economical way to avoid costly repairs to the exchanger or to the block itself when the boat is in the open sea.
