Lexor Propeller 14.8X23 Right Hand
Description
Function and Technical Context
The 23-pitch, 14.8-inch diameter right-hand rotation propeller acts as the final link in the power train, converting engine torque into hydraulic thrust on the water and propelling the vessel. It operates directly on the shaft line, secured to it by means of hub adjustment and key, and its geometry—diameter, pitch, and number of blades—determines the r.p.m. range at which the engine operates under optimal load conditions. A propeller with incorrect pitch or diameter forces the propulsion unit to over-rev or become starved, causing loss of effective thrust, increased fuel consumption, and premature wear of the transmission. The right-hand rotation direction—clockwise as viewed from astern—is a non-interchangeable parameter: in twin-screw installations it defines the port or starboard position, while in single-screw configurations it determines the behavior of the reaction torque on the vessel's steering.
When to Replace This Component?
The clearest signs that the propeller requires replacement are the appearance of abnormal vibration transmitted through the shaft and hull, a sudden drop in top speed or acceleration response, excessive cavitation visible in the wake, and unjustified increased fuel consumption without anomalies detected in the engine. Impacts with floating debris, groundings, or continuous erosion from cavitation can bend or blunt the leading edge of the blades, altering effective pitch and unbalancing the rotating assembly, which in turn accelerates deterioration of the vibration damping bushing, the shaft log bearing, and the stuffing box gland seal. A detailed visual inspection is recommended at each seasonal haul-out; upon any deformation, erosion, or material loss on the blades, immediate replacement prevents resonant vibration damage to higher-cost repair components.
