ANODE SOLE/4 41mm.
Description
Function and technical context
This zinc anode for 41 mm Sole engines acts as sacrificial cathodic protection, being electrochemically absorbed to prevent galvanic corrosion from attacking the noble metal parts of the outboard or inboard engine. It works in the anti-corrosion protection system of the block and submerged components, interposing a metal with a lower electrochemical potential between the engine and the water. Correct installation is essential in salt and brackish water environments, where galvanic corrosion can destroy casings, shafts and propellers in a single season if the anode is depleted. The 41 mm diameter guarantees precise fit at the fixing points designed for this reference on Sole motors, ensuring effective electrical contact and an adequate sacrificial surface.
When to replace this part?
The main indicator of exhaustion of an anode is the loss of more than 50% of its mass: when the zinc appears very reduced, fragmented or with a whitish color and sandy texture, it has lost its protective capacity and must be replaced immediately. The anodes should be inspected at least once a season, ideally at each beaching or annual inspection, and replaced whenever wear exceeds half of the material. Renewing the anode preventively at the beginning of each sailing season is the practice recommended by specialized nautical workshops: the cost of an anode is minimal compared to repairing a shaft, propeller or block corroded through carelessness.
