ANODE MAX SHAFT PROP 22,25,28 MM. ALU
Description
Function and technical context
Sacrificial anodes for Max Prop propellers with 22, 25 and 28 mm shafts act as active cathodic protection against galvanic corrosion that affects the submerged metal components of the propulsion line. This aluminum anode is installed directly on the propeller shaft, in the area where it joins the Max Prop variable pitch propeller, protecting both the propeller hub and the shaft itself from electrochemical attacks caused by the potential difference between different metals in contact with water. The aluminum composition makes it especially suitable for boats that navigate in salty or brackish waters, where galvanic corrosion is more aggressive and can compromise the integrity of the propulsion shaft and propeller components in a few seasons if adequate cathodic protection is not available.
When to replace this part?
The clearest sign that the anode needs replacement is the loss of more than 50% of its mass: when the anode appears visibly reduced, cracked or completely consumed, it has exhausted its protective capacity and adjacent components are exposed to corrosion. It is recommended to inspect and replace the shaft anodes at each seasonal docking, generally on an annual basis, although in areas with high electrical conductivity of the water or with high galvanic currents in the port it may be necessary to check them every six months. Preventatively replacing the anode at every seasonal tune-up is the most economical measure to avoid costly damage to the shaft, Max Prop propeller or stern tube bushings.
