Function and technical context

The 10 micron filter element is part of the Racor filtration assembly installed in the fuel supply circuit, acting as a precision barrier between the tank and the injectors of the outboard engine. Its filter media retains solid particles up to 10 microns nominal diameter, as well as free water in suspension and organic sediments that accumulate in diesel or gasoline during storage and navigation. In high-pressure electronic fuel injection systems, any contaminant exceeding this threshold can cause premature injector wear, sudden power loss or engine shutdown during operation. The proper condition of this element is therefore an essential requirement to ensure stability of the operating regime and longevity of the fuel injection system.

When to replace this part?

The most common symptoms of a clogged filter element are gradual power loss at high rpm, irregular acceleration or engine shutdown due to lack of fuel flow, especially under load. On vessels with intensive use or operating in areas with low-quality fuel, it is recommended to inspect and replace the element every 100 operating hours or at the start of each season, whichever comes first. Preventively changing the element during seasonal maintenance is the most efficient practice to avoid an injector failure at sea, whose repair is significantly more costly than the element itself.
