Description

Function and technical context

The sacrificial anodes for 46 mm Max Prop propellers are part of the boat's cathodic protection system, acting as a consumable element that preferentially oxidizes compared to the noble metals of the propeller and propulsion shaft. Its function is to protect the bronze or stainless steel alloy of the Max Prop propeller against galvanic corrosion caused by prolonged immersion in salt, brackish or fresh water. Without anodic protection in good condition, electrochemical attack can progressively degrade the blades, the hub and the internal variable pitch mechanisms of the propeller, components of high cost and precision. Reference TEN00482/6 is designed specifically for the 46mm diameter of the Max Prop range, ensuring an exact fit and adequate protective coverage to the exposed metal surface.

When to replace this part?

The anodes must be inspected at least once a season, usually during beaching and antifouling of the hull, and replaced when they have lost approximately 50% of their mass, present a completely irregular surface or have been consumed to expose the fixing core. Waiting for the anode to be completely exhausted is equivalent to leaving the metal components of the propeller unprotected, which can result in pitting, blade erosion or damage to the variable pitch mechanism that is difficult to repair in the water. Preventive replacement at each grounding is the practice recommended by naval technicians to avoid costly propeller breakdowns during the sailing season.
