Description

Function and technical context

Aluminum anodes are part of the boat's cathodic protection system, acting as an electrochemical sacrifice to preserve the submerged metal parts of the hull, propeller, shaft and components of the outboard or inboard engine. Aluminum is the ideal material for salt and brackish waters, as it offers a higher protective current density than zinc in these environments, guaranteeing effective coverage against galvanic corrosion. Without adequate cathodic protection, the noble metals of the propulsion group—such as the bronze of the propeller or the stainless steel of the shaft—degrade rapidly, generating costly breakdowns and compromising the safety of navigation. This kit with reference CMDIVERBONDA groups together in a single order all the anodes necessary to complete the boat's maintenance cycle, facilitating a complete and coordinated replacement.

When to replace this part?

The clearest indicator that the anodes need to be replaced is when they have lost between 50% and 60% of their mass due to wear: if the anode appears very reduced, irregular or with deep cavities, it no longer offers sufficient protection. It is recommended to inspect and replace the anodes at least once a season—or every time the boat is beached for inspection—without waiting for them to be completely consumed. Replacing the complete kit preventively at each annual tune-up is the most common practice among naval mechanics, since avoiding active galvanic corrosion on the propulsion group can mean saving very expensive repairs on components that are difficult to access.
