ANODO LAPIZ LOMBARDINI Ø10 18mm (ZN)
Description
Function and technical context
This zinc pencil anode for Lombardini engines acts as sacrificial cathodic protection, absorbing galvanic corrosion that would otherwise attack the metal parts of the engine block and the water cooling circuit. Being made of zinc (ZN), it is ideal for use in salt and brackish water, where electrolytic corrosion is especially aggressive. With a diameter of 10 mm and a length of 18 mm, this pencil anode is installed directly into the bleed points or plugs of the Lombardini engine block, creating a controlled sacrifice zone that preserves the integrity of the housings, liners and cooling manifolds. Its correct installation and periodic replacement is essential to avoid pitting, internal erosion and structural failures in the marine engine components.
When to replace this part?
Pencil anodes should be inspected at the beginning of each boating season and replaced when they have lost approximately 50% of their mass, become irregularly shaped, or have been consumed to the core. In motors that work in areas with high salinity or strong galvanic activity, it is common for them to need to be renewed even every 6 months. Not waiting for the anode to be completely consumed is the key to avoiding costly repairs to the engine block: a depleted anode leaves the internal metal surfaces unprotected, accelerating corrosion in places that are difficult to access and repair.
