Function and technical context

Sacrificial anodes in outboard and outboard motors act as an electrochemical shield, protecting the metal parts of the engine against galvanic corrosion caused by contact with salt, brackish or even fresh water with dissolved minerals. This 45 x 13 mm anode is installed directly on the block or structural components of the engine, sacrificing in a controlled manner so that corrosion attacks the anode and not the noble parts of the engine group. When to replace this part?

An anode must be replaced when it has lost approximately 50% of its mass, a sign that its protective capacity is exhausted; In practice, this usually occurs at the end of each nautical season or before if the vessel usually operates in waters with high conductivity.
