Description

Function and technical context

The Racor RAC110A is a separation fuel filter designed to work in the feeding system of marine engines, acting as a barrier between the tank and the fuel pump. Its main function is to retain suspended solid particles, sediments and traces of water that inevitably accumulate in boat tanks exposed to marine humidity, thus protecting the injectors, the injection pump and the fuel circuit pipes. With a flow capacity of 57 liters per hour, it guarantees a continuous and stable supply in both petrol engines and diesel engines, without creating pressure drops that penalize engine performance. Its compact dimensions – 152 mm high and 81 mm wide and deep – allow it to be installed in the confined spaces common in engine rooms of recreational and professional boats.

When to replace this part?

The most common symptoms of a clogged or deteriorated fuel filter are: difficult or irregular starts, loss of power at full load, engine jerks and hesitations at different speeds, and in advanced cases, unexpected engine stops due to lack of fuel supply. In marine engines, it is recommended to replace the fuel filter every 100 hours of navigation or at the beginning of each season, whichever comes first, since fuel stored during the winter can generate bacteria and sediment that saturate the filter element. Changing this filter preventively at each seasonal inspection is the simplest and most economical measure to avoid a breakdown of the injection pump or injectors at sea, the repair of which is considerably more expensive.
