CHAMPION RN3C SPARK PLUG
Description
Function and technical context
The Champion RN3C spark plug is the element responsible for generating the spark that initiates combustion in the cylinder of a two-stroke outboard or outboard engine. It is part of the ignition system and works closely with the coil, the capacitor and the platinum or electronic ignition module. A bad spark plug causes misfires, loss of power, high fuel consumption and, in the most serious cases, the inability to start the engine. The CHARN3C reference unequivocally identifies this model within the Champion catalogue, guaranteeing the correct selection for each application.
When to replace this part?
The most common symptoms of a worn or contaminated spark plug in marine engines are: difficult or impossible starting, irregular idling, jerking and loss of speed under load, and sometimes the appearance of bluish smoke due to burning oil in the mixture. In two-stroke engines, it is recommended to check and replace the spark plugs during each seasonal maintenance or approximately every 100 hours of operation, since the marine environment—with humidity, salt air and thermal variations—accelerates the deterioration of the electrode and the insulator. Changing the spark plug preventively is one of the most economical interventions that avoid being stranded far from port due to a misfire.
