Function and technical context

The Ø90 mm J-PROP propeller anode in zinc acts as a sacrificial galvanic protector, integrating directly onto the propeller hub to protect the aluminum and stainless steel alloys of the shaft and propeller against electrolytic corrosion. This component works within the cathodic protection system of the boat's underwater transmission, being especially critical in installations in salt or brackish water where the electrolytic potential is high. By being preferentially consumed, the anode prevents the degradation of the surrounding structural metal; If it is used up without being replaced, corrosion advances on more expensive parts such as the propeller shaft, the hub or even the axle cone, compromising the mechanical integrity of the propulsion assembly. When to replace this part?
