Description

Function and technical context

The Rubex L3-E 15.8×15 propeller is the propulsion element responsible for transforming the mechanical power of the outboard motor into directional thrust of the boat. With a diameter of 15.8 inches and a pitch of 15 inches, it works in the marine transmission system, transferring revolutions from the crankshaft to the water through its cast aluminum blades. Its stainless coating resists galvanic corrosion and marine oxidation characteristic of salt water, maintaining hydrodynamic efficiency and preventing the progressive loss of thrust due to surface erosion. Advanced wear on the blades or deep corrosion compromises the acceleration capacity and top speed of the boat, in addition to significantly increasing fuel consumption.

When to replace this part?

Symptoms of wear include abnormal vibrations in the transmission, notable reduction in maximum revolutions at full load, audible cavitation (bubbles and whistling in the stern area) and loss of top speed with no apparent cause in the engine. It is recommended to visually inspect the propeller at least once per navigation season, especially after operations in very turbid waters or with the presence of algae and sediment. Preventatively replacing a propeller before damage becomes evident avoids being left without propulsion at sea and protects the internal components of the transmission against abnormal mechanical forces.
