Function and technical context

The cathodic protection anode acts as a sacrificial element in the engine's internal cooling circuit, electrochemically interposing itself between seawater or brackish water and the metal surfaces of the block. By oxidizing in a controlled manner, it protects critical components such as the heat exchanger, jackets and internal ducts against galvanic corrosion. The 7/16" thread guarantees a secure seat and optimal electrical contact with the metal mass of the motor. Without an anode in good condition, corrosion can advance silently until irreparably damaging the cooling galleries, leading to overheating or loss of internal tightness.

When to replace this part?

Anodes should be inspected at least once a season and replaced when they have lost between 50% and 60% of their mass, since below that volume they no longer offer effective protection. A completely consumed or fragmented anode is a sign that adjacent metal parts are already beginning to corrode. The recommended practice is to change the engine anode at each winter stop or before each boating season, thus avoiding costly breakdowns in hard-to-reach areas of the engine.
