The drive pinion is the drive gear responsible for transmitting power from the engine crankshaft to the gearbox sprocket. Integrated into the propeller transmission system, it works under conditions of high load and constant friction, being responsible for converting the rotation of the engine into controlled movement of the propeller. Its progressive wear significantly reduces the engine torque transmission capacity, causing loss of acceleration, gear slippage and, in advanced cases, total inoperability of the driving system.

When to replace this part?

Symptoms of sprocket wear include abnormal transmission clunking, skipping or skidding during acceleration, and noticeable loss of power at start-up. It is recommended to inspect the condition of the teeth at each seasonal inspection, especially after saltwater navigation or periods of continuous engine stress. Preventive replacement prevents unexpected breakdowns during navigation and significantly extends the life of the complete transmission assembly.
