Its function is to fit precisely on the end of the shaft - in this case 26 mm with pitch 2 - ensuring that the rotational force is transferred without loss or play to the propeller assembly or the corresponding coupling. A worn, cracked or compromised adjustment socket can cause abnormal vibrations, loss of traction, progressive damage to the shaft and even separation of the propulsion assembly during navigation, with the serious safety consequences that this entails.

When to replace this part?

The most common symptoms of a bad axle socket are noticeable vibrations from the deck or cockpit, especially at certain revolutions, along with metallic or knocking noises from the tailshaft during propulsion. It may also manifest as unusual axial play or movement in the shaft when checking it with the boat out of the water. It is recommended to inspect the socket at each seasonal landing and replace it if there is any sign of deformation, severe corrosion or loss of fit on the shaft, since operating with this damaged part can compromise the entire transmission line and lead to higher cost breakdowns.
