Function and technical context

This 45 mm shaft anode acts as a galvanic sacrifice in the boat's propulsion system, protecting it against electrolytic corrosion that is generated when different metals are submerged in salt or brackish water. Mounted directly on the tail shaft, the anode wears in a controlled manner in place of higher value metal components such as the shaft itself, propeller or stern tube. Without effective cathodic protection, the shaft can suffer deep pits that compromise its structural integrity, generating vibrations, loss of sealing in the horn and, ultimately, premature failure of the shaft. The reference TEN00476 has been designed specifically for Ferreti installations with a 45 mm shaft, guaranteeing a precise fit and an optimal contact surface for maximum protection efficiency.

When to replace this part?

Clear signs that the shaft anode needs to be replaced are a reduction in mass by 50% or more compared to the new state, the appearance of severe surface irregularities, or the complete disintegration of the sacrificial material. It is recommended to visually inspect the anode at each beaching and replace it at least once per nautical season, regardless of its apparent condition, since a depleted anode leaves the shaft completely unprotected against galvanic corrosion. Replacing the anode preventively at each annual maintenance is the most economical measure to avoid replacing the shaft or propeller, considerably more expensive interventions.
