ANODE SHAFT 35mm
Description
Function and technical context
Shaft anodes are cathodic protection elements designed to be electrochemically sacrificed in place of the metal components of the vessel. This zinc anode is installed directly over the 35mm propulsion shaft, creating a galvanic barrier that protects the shaft, propeller and seals from marine corrosion. Galvanic corrosion is one of the main enemies of submerged propulsion systems, especially in salty or brackish waters, and without adequate protection it can degrade the shaft until it becomes unusable in a few seasons. The CMXC-35 reference is specifically sized for 35mm diameter shafts, ensuring correct fit and electrical contact for effective protection.
When to replace this part?
The main indicator that a shaft anode needs to be replaced is its mass reduction: when the anode has lost approximately 50% of its volume, it has reached the limit of its useful life and should be replaced immediately. During the annual beaching review, it is essential to inspect the condition of the anode; In areas with high water conductivity or with galvanic currents in the port, it may need to be replaced even before the end of the season. Replacing the anode preventively is the most economical measure to avoid corrosion of the tail shaft, damage to which can involve expensive rectifications or even complete replacement of the shaft.
