The propeller closure kit is part of the transmission system of OMC and Johnson outboard engines, being the assembly of elements responsible for fixing and hermetically sealing the propeller to the propulsion shaft. Its purpose is to ensure that the propeller remains correctly anchored during navigation, transmitting engine torque to the water without play or performance losses. It operates in the final transmission system, at the interface between the shaft and the propeller hub, where it is continuously exposed to salt water, hydrodynamic pressure and torsional stresses inherent to propeller operation. When to Replace This Part?

The most common signs of a propeller closure kit in poor condition are perceptible play when manually moving the propeller with the engine off, rattling or metallic noises at low RPM and abnormal vibrations transmitted to the hull during navigation that do not disappear when increasing RPM. It is recommended to inspect this assembly at each seasonal maintenance or whenever the propeller is removed to inspect the shaft or replace the water pump impeller.
