ANODE MAX SHAFT PROP 38.40 MM. ALU
Description
Function and technical context
Max Prop shaft sacrificial anodes act as cathodic protection on the propulsion shaft and variable pitch propeller, preventing galvanic corrosion from attacking the submerged metal components of the boat. This aluminum anode (CMP83MA) is designed specifically for 38 and 40 mm diameter shafts, ensuring a precise fit and effective electrical contact with the metal to be protected. Being made of aluminum alloy, it is especially suitable for navigation in brackish and oceanic waters, where the electrolytic conductivity is high and the risk of corrosion on bronzes, stainless steels and alloys of the propeller and horn is greater. Without proper cathodic protection, the shaft, propeller and horn components can suffer pitting, material loss and structural failures that compromise the safety and maneuverability of the boat.
When to replace this part?
The clearest sign that the shaft anode needs to be replaced is when it has consumed between 50% and 70% of its mass, at which point it no longer offers sufficient protection; In no case should you wait for it to disappear completely. It is recommended to inspect and replace the sacrificial anodes at least once a season, coinciding with the annual docking of the boat, or every 12 months in areas of high electrolyte aggressiveness. Replacing the anode preventively before launching is the most economical practice to avoid corrosion damage to the shaft, Max Prop propeller and horn, repairs that can multiply the cost of a simple anode tenfold.
