NGK BP8HS-15 SPARK PLUG
Read the review
Description
Function and technical context
The NGK BP8HS-15 spark plug is the component responsible for generating the electrical spark that ignites the air-fuel mixture inside the combustion chamber of the petrol outboard or inboard engine. It works in the engine ignition system, being the final link between the high voltage current generated by the ignition module and the controlled explosion that produces the propulsive power. An incorrect electrode calibration or a deteriorated spark plug causes misfires, noticeable loss of power, increased fuel consumption and starting difficulties, especially when cold. The reference BP8HS-15 corresponds to a spark plug with a thermal grade 8 and a distance between electrodes of 1.5 mm, determining characteristics for its correct application in engines that require that specific thermal range.
When to replace this part?
The most common symptoms of a worn or failed spark plug include difficult or impossible starting, irregular engine idling, jerking or loss of power at full load, and in advanced cases, visible carbon deposits on the central electrode when removed for visual inspection. For petrol marine engines, it is recommended to check and replace the spark plugs every 100 hours of operation or at the beginning of each nautical season, whichever comes first. Replacing the spark plugs preventively is one of the lowest cost interventions that has the greatest impact on the performance and reliability of the engine in navigation.
