MAX PROP COLLAR 46mm.
Description
Function and technical context
The 46 mm Max Prop propeller collar is the fastening and centering element that secures the variable pitch propeller hub with the tail shaft, guaranteeing full transmission of engine torque without slippage or radial play. It works in the boat's propulsion system, acting as a structural connection piece between the propeller shaft and the Max Prop self-propelling propeller assembly. Its correct installation is critical: a damaged collar or one with excessive clearance causes abnormal vibrations in the shaft, loss of propulsive efficiency and, in advanced cases, irreversible damage to the shaft cone or the propeller hub itself. Being a precision machined part, any deformation or corrosion in its fit directly compromises navigation safety.
When to replace this part?
The most common symptoms of a worn or damaged collar are noticeable vibrations in the tail shaft at different cruising speeds, metallic noise coming from the propeller area and detectable axial or radial movement when trying to manually move the propeller with the shaft locked. It is recommended to inspect the collar at each annual landing, checking the surface condition, the absence of galvanic corrosion and the adjustment tolerance on the shaft; In vessels with intensive use or in waters with high salinity, the review must be carried out every six months. Replacing the collar preventatively during seasonal maintenance is significantly more economical than dealing with repairing a damaged shaft or losing a propeller while sailing.
