Function and technical context

Sacrificial anodes for 52 mm Max Prop propellers are part of the propulsion line cathodic protection system. Their mission is to concentrate galvanic corrosion on themselves, preserving the most valuable metal components - such as the propeller hub, shaft and internal variable pitch mechanisms - against the electrochemical attack caused by immersion in salt or brackish water. Without this element, degradation directly affects precision parts that are expensive to replace and whose failure can leave the boat immobilized. The reference TEN00483 is designed specifically for the 52 mm hub diameter of the Max Prop propellers, guaranteeing a correct fit and a sacrificial surface adequate to the metal volume it must protect.

When to replace this part?

The most obvious symptom that the anode has exhausted its useful life is the visible reduction in its mass: when it has lost approximately half of its volume, it must be replaced before the base metal is unprotected. As a general rule, propeller anodes should be inspected at least once a season – ideally at the annual beaching – and replaced whenever they show more than 50% wear, regardless of the time elapsed, since the aggressiveness of the marine environment varies depending on the navigation area and the presence of galvanic currents in the port. Replacing the anode preventively during grounding maintenance is the simplest and most economical measure to avoid serious damage to the Max Prop propeller and the propulsion shaft.
