Function and technical context

300 g/m² 1 meter wide fiberglass mat fabric is a structural reinforcement material widely used in the construction and repair of boat hulls, decks and structures made of polyester or epoxy. Its main function is to provide mechanical resistance and cohesion to the laminate, distributing the loads homogeneously thanks to the random arrangement of its cut fibers. This type of fabric is used in manual lamination or infusion work, forming successive layers that, once impregnated with catalyzed resin, form a rigid, waterproof and durable assembly. It is a critical component in any osmosis repair process, bulkhead reinforcement, sealing structural cracks or building new custom parts in the naval workshop.

When to replace or replace this material?

The need to replenish stocks of fiberglass mat arises when symptoms such as osmosis blisters, delaminations, impacts with visible cracks or areas with loss of rigidity to the touch are detected on the hull or structures. For preventive maintenance tasks, it is advisable to inspect the hull at each seasonal landing to identify areas with loss of adhesion between layers or moisture leaks that compromise the laminate. Having mat fabric in good condition in the workshop—without humidity or contamination—guarantees agile interventions and prevents a minor repair from becoming a higher-cost structural commitment.
