ANODE HELMET 191x70
Description
Function and technical context
Hull anodes act as a sacrificial element in the vessel's cathodic protection system, diverting to themselves electrolytic corrosion that would otherwise attack the structural metal of the hull, propeller, shafts and submerged metal fittings. This hull anode measuring 191x70 mm is installed directly on the hull of the boat, establishing a galvanic circuit that protects adjacent noble metals against corrosion in salt, brackish or fresh water environments. Without proper cathodic protection, submerged metals suffer accelerated degradation that compromises the structural integrity of the vessel and its propulsion systems. The reference CMM40 uniquely identifies this component to facilitate its location and replacement in the workshop or on board.
When to replace this part?
Hull anodes should be inspected at least once a season, usually during the annual beaching, and replaced when they have lost 50% to 60% of their mass, as below this threshold they no longer provide effective protection. Symptoms of a depleted anode include visible pitting or erosion on the hull, propeller or tail shaft, as well as abnormal lime deposits on submerged metal areas. Replacing the anode preventively at each grounding is the most economical measure to avoid severe corrosion damage that can lead to costly hull or transmission repairs.
