Description

Function and technical context

The collar anode for Gori propellers from 22 to 26 inches is a cathodic protection element specifically designed to be mounted around the propeller hub, acting as an electrochemical sacrifice against galvanic corrosion. It works within the boat's propulsion system, protecting it in salt or brackish water environments where submerged metals—shaft, horn, and propeller hub—are exposed to eddy currents and accelerated oxidation processes. Its function is to deteriorate in a controlled manner instead of more expensive drive train components, preventing pitting, erosion and structural damage to the shaft and propeller. Without adequate anodic protection, galvanic deterioration can compromise the integrity of the propeller shaft and cause serious breakdowns that require the ship to be beached for repair.

When to replace this part?

Zinc anodes should be inspected at least once a season and replaced when they have lost approximately 50% of their mass, have a completely blackened surface, or show a porous, fragmented structure indicating advanced depletion of the sacrificial material. As a general rule in sports and recreational boating, it is recommended to change all anodes at each annual beaching, regardless of their apparent visual condition, since an exhausted anode leaves the shaft and propeller completely unprotected against corrosion. Replacing the anode collar preventively at each seasonal maintenance is the simplest and most economical measure to avoid costly damage to the Gori propeller shaft, horn or hub itself.
