Function and technical context

This 4-stroke marine oil with 25W40 viscosity is specifically formulated for inboard engines for nautical use, where working conditions are significantly more demanding than in land applications: prolonged operation at constant speed, exposure to saline humidity and continuous thermal cycles. It acts within the engine lubrication system, creating a protective film on the crankshaft, connecting rods, camshaft and other internal moving components, reducing friction and metallic wear. The 25W40 formulation guarantees adequate viscosity both in cold starts and under the thermal load generated during navigation, avoiding breakage of the lubricant film in high temperature conditions. Inadequate or degraded oil in an inboard engine can lead to premature wear of liners and pistons, loss of compression, increased fuel consumption and even engine seizure in high demand situations. When to change the oil?

Professional advice is not to extend the change interval on boats with heavy use or in salt water, as salt and moisture contamination accelerates internal engine rust and the costs of a major repair far exceed the price of a preventive oil change.
