Function and technical context

The cooling anode for Aifo engines acts as a galvanic sacrificial element integrated into the water circuit of the cooling system, protecting the internal metal surfaces - jackets, heat exchangers and collectors - against electrochemical corrosion caused by prolonged contact with salt or brackish water. Being a less noble metal than the cast iron or aluminum that make up the blocks and heads of these engines, the anode oxidizes in a controlled manner, absorbing the galvanic current before it attacks the structural parts of the engine. Without effective cathodic protection inside the cooling circuit, the water ducts and chambers can suffer from pitting, blockages due to corrosion deposits and loss of tightness that lead to overheating or entry of water into the lubrication circuit. The reference TEN02011 is designed specifically for Aifo engines, guaranteeing dimensional fit and proper alloy composition for optimal protection.

When to replace this part?

Cooling anodes should be inspected at the beginning and end of each nautical season; When the anode has lost more than 50% of its mass or has a completely oxidized and friable surface, it must be replaced immediately. In engines that operate in waters with high salinity or with high eddy currents (marine with power outlet on the dock), wear can be significantly faster, so it is recommended to check the condition of the TEN02011 anode at each periodic maintenance without waiting for the end of the season. Replacing the anode preventively is a low-cost intervention that avoids severe damage to the cooling block, repairs at the dock and unplanned stops in navigation.
