Description

Function and technical context

This zinc anode acts as a sacrificial electrode in the cathodic protection system of the Ford marine engine, interposing its metallic mass between the structural components of the propellant and the corrosive action of salt or brackish water. Its operating principle is based on the difference in electrochemical potential: since zinc is a more electronegative metal than the aluminum or steel present in the block, casing and transmission components, the anode is consumed in its place, preserving the integrity of the most expensive parts. Without active and correctly sized cathodic protection, galvanic corrosion advances silently on the engine body, water covers and mounting brackets, compromising the tightness and mechanical resistance of the drive assembly. The reference TEN02070/A is specifically designed to adapt to the geometry and fixing points of the Ford marine engine to which it corresponds, guaranteeing optimal electrical contact without clearances that reduce its protective effectiveness.

When to replace this part?

The clearest sign of replacement in a sacrificial anode is the loss of between 50% and 60% of its mass: when the zinc is cracked, reduced to a thin core or with whitish oxide deposits that block its active surface, it no longer offers sufficient protection. The inspection should be carried out at a minimum at the beginning and end of each navigation season, or more frequently if the vessel remains in port areas with a high density of eddy currents. Replacing the TEN02070/A anode preventively, before it is completely exhausted, is the most economical measure to avoid corrosion damage to cast or marine aluminum parts whose repair or replacement is considerably more expensive.
