Function and technical context

15W40 diesel oil is a multigrade lubricant designed to protect the internal components of marine diesel engines under demanding working conditions. It acts within the lubrication system, forming a protective film on pistons, crankshaft, camshaft and bearings to reduce friction and evacuate the heat generated by combustion. Its 15W40 viscosity guarantees smooth cold starting and stable protection at full load and high operating temperatures. Poor lubrication or the use of inappropriate oil accelerates the wear of moving parts, can cause internal seizures and drastically reduce the useful life of the engine. Maintaining the level and quality of the oil in optimal conditions is one of the most important preventive measures for the reliability of the engine.

When to replace this oil?

Symptoms that indicate that the oil has lost its properties include a dark or blackish color on the dipstick, foaming or milky appearance (a sign of water contamination), a burning smell, or an unusual increase in oil consumption between changes. For marine diesel engines, it is recommended to change the oil every 100 hours of use or at the beginning of each nautical season, whichever comes first, always following the engine manufacturer's specifications. Carrying out the change in a preventive and timely manner is the most economical way to avoid serious breakdowns inside the engine and costly stops while sailing.
