Description

Function and technical context

The right INOX Lexor 15.5x17 propeller is the fundamental propulsion element of the marine transmission system, responsible for converting the engine power into hydrostatic thrust to move the boat. Installed directly on the output shaft of the Mercury Mercruiser engine or in Command Thrust systems, it works in the most demanding environment of the marine engine: submerged in salt water, exposed to continuous friction and variable torque forces. Its 17-inch pitch and 15.5-inch diameter geometry is calibrated to optimize propulsive performance in engines from 90 to 300 hp, maintaining the balance between maximum speed and fuel consumption. The manufacture of injected aluminum with INOX treatment guarantees resistance to marine corrosion, avoiding material degradation and catastrophic failure in navigation.

When to replace this part?

The propeller should be inspected regularly for signs of erosion, radial cracks, blade deformation or loss of material at the leading edges, clear symptoms of cavitation, advanced corrosion or impacts with submerged objects. Replacement is essential when abnormal vibration is detected during navigation, unexplained loss of maximum speed, reduction in thrust or visible damage to the structure of the blades; These indicators indicate that the propeller has lost its propulsion capacity and its imbalance can damage the shaft and bearings. A thorough inspection is recommended at the beginning of each season and a preventive change after 5-7 years of regular use in salt water, or immediately after sailing in shallow waters or with the presence of debris that causes impacts. Replacing the propeller preventatively prevents unexpected groundings and costly shaft and transmission repairs at sea.
