ANODO HAMILTON JET 98X19 (AL)
Description
Function and technical context
The Hamilton Jet 98x19mm aluminum anode acts as an electrochemical sacrifice, protecting itself to preserve the metal components of the jet propulsion system from galvanic corrosion. In water jet thrusters—or jet drives—the impeller, casing and shaft are constantly exposed to salt, brackish or highly conductive water, environments where galvanic corrosion can destroy critical parts in a few weeks. When installed in the appropriate area of the Hamilton Jet propellant, this aluminum anode concentrates all the galvanic action on itself, being the one that corrodes instead of the structural components of the jet. The aluminum alloy used in this type of anode makes it especially effective in salty and brackish waters, offering active and homogeneous cathodic protection throughout the entire navigation season.
When to replace this part?
An aluminum anode for a jet propellant must be inspected at least once a season and replaced when it has lost approximately 50% of its mass, since below that threshold the cathodic protection is insufficient and the propellant components are exposed to corrosion. The symptoms of an exhausted anode are visible: very reduced surface area, whitish and disintegrated appearance, or complete disappearance of the anode. As a professional rule, it is recommended to replace the anode at the beginning of each season as a preventive measure on boats that regularly sail in salt water, thus avoiding irreparable damage to the impeller or casing of the Hamilton Jet that can involve very high-cost repairs.
