Description

Function and technical context

The aluminum anode for Castoldi Jet 26x22 acts as cathodic protection of the jet propellant, sacrificing itself electrochemically to preserve the metal parts of the propulsion system against galvanic corrosion. It works in the jet-type hydraulic propulsion system, where constant exposure to salt, brackish or water with high mineral content generates electrical potential differences that attack the noble metals of the unit. The absence or depletion of this anode leaves critical components of the rotor, jet body and turbine shafts exposed, leading to accelerated corrosion that can render the propulsion unit completely unusable. The aluminum (AL) composition of this reference REC9454AL makes it especially suitable for salty and brackish waters, offering active and efficient protection against electrolytic corrosion.

When to replace this part?

The most common symptoms of a depleted anode on a Castoldi Jet unit are visible pitting or corrosion on the impeller body, premature aging of the metal surfaces of the jet and, in advanced cases, structural damage to the rotor or casing. As a general rule, aluminum anodes should be checked at the beginning and end of each sailing season, and replaced when they have lost more than 50% of their mass. Keeping the anode in good condition is the most economical investment to avoid high-cost repairs to the jet propulsion unit, especially after prolonged wintering or navigation in areas of high salinity.
