Description

Function and technical context

This aluminum anode for 32mm Sole engines acts as sacrificial cathodic protection, absorbing galvanic corrosion that would otherwise attack the structural metal parts of the outboard or inboard engine. It works within the corrosion protection system, exposing itself directly to salt or brackish water so that the noble metals of the motor - such as the aluminum of the casing, the stainless steel of the shaft or the bronze of the accessories - remain intact. If the anode is completely consumed without being replaced, galvanic corrosion advances on critical engine and hull components, generating structural damage that is costly to repair. The aluminum alloy composition makes it especially suitable for navigation in salt and brackish water, offering a controlled and efficient dissolution rate.

When to replace this part?

The clearest sign that the anode needs to be changed is when it has lost more than 50% of its mass, has a very irregular surface or has completely disappeared; At that point it no longer offers sufficient protection. It is recommended that the anodes be inspected and replaced at least once per nautical season, or each time the boat is taken out of dry dock for maintenance. Replacing the anode preventively at the beginning of each season is the most common practice among marine mechanics, since the cost of an anode is minimal compared to repairing a corroded casing or shaft.
