Function and technical context

The zinc anode is a sacrificial part that protects the Yamaha engine's submerged metal components against galvanic corrosion in salt and freshwater environments. Installed in the engine block casing or in areas exposed to direct contact with water, it acts as an electrochemical barrier, oxidizing preferably before aluminum, cast iron or other metals in the cooling system and the marine structure. Without this active protection, corrosion would advance rapidly in the internal water galleries and on the external surfaces of the block, causing leaks, loss of seals in joints and progressive degradation of the engine's cooling capacity.

When to replace this part?

The zinc anode is gradually consumed during each boating season; When it presents visual erosion greater than 50% of its volume, it has lost effectiveness and must be replaced immediately. Systematic inspection during each seasonal maintenance (before storing the boat or at the beginning of the campaign) makes it possible to detect wear in time and avoid corrosive deposits in the cylinders, perforations in the water jacket and costly repairs at sea that can compromise the seaworthiness of the boat.
