YAHAMA ANODE 63P-11325-01
Description
Function and technical context
The sacrificial anode is a critical component in the cathodic protection of Yamaha marine engines. Installed in strategic areas of the engine block and cooling systems, it acts as a defensive barrier against galvanic corrosion caused by the electrochemical interaction between salt water and the ferrous metals of the engine. By preferentially oxidizing, the anode is consumed in a controlled manner, preserving the vital parts of the engine—cylinder liners, cylinder heads, and cooling ducts—from structural degradation that would compromise the sealing and mechanical performance of the propellant.
When to replace this part?
Anode corrosion is a continuous process in marine navigation: a visual inspection at the end of each season will reveal its characteristic state of wear—roughened surface, loss of volume, dark discoloration or white rust spots. It is recommended to replace the anode when it shows wear greater than 50% of its mass or every 2-3 years if you regularly sail in salt water, depending on the salinity and temperature of the water. Preventive replacement prevents costly surprises at sea and ensures that the protection system remains active throughout the boating season.
