Function and technical context

The 6E5-11325-00 aluminum anode is a sacrificial cathodic protection component that works in the cooling system of Yamaha outboard motors. Its function is to preferentially rust rather than the base metal of the engine, preventing galvanic corrosion caused by contact of the metal with salt or brackish water. This anode is essential on vessels sailing in marine waters, where salinity accelerates corrosive processes and can compromise the structural integrity of the engine block, cylinder head and cooling passages if there is no active protection.

When to replace this part?

The anode should be inspected at the end of each boating season and replaced when it has lost 50-75% of its mass, which typically occurs every 12-24 months depending on the intensity of use and water salinity. If you detect whitish deposits or accelerated erosion on the outside of the motor, visible corrosion in other metal areas, or if the anode appears practically consumed, it is a sign that the protection has been exhausted.
