YAMAHA ANODE 6H1-45251-01
Description
Function and technical context
The sacrificial anode is a critical component in the cathodic protection of Yamaha marine engines submerged or exposed to salt water. Made of active material, it degrades controlledly to avoid electrochemical corrosion of the engine block, cylinder head and internal aluminum and stainless steel components. It works in the cooling and anti-corrosion protection system, being essential in saltwater vessels where oxidation advances rapidly without this sacrificial barrier. Its absence or wear allows galvanic corrosion to directly attack the vital parts of the engine, compromising the sealing, heat transmission and structural integrity of the block.
When to replace this part?
Anodes should be inspected at the beginning of each season and replaced when they have lost more than 50% of their mass; In boats with intensive use in salt water, annual replacement or every 200-300 hours of operation is recommended. Signs of failure include visible corrosion on the engine block, whitish deposits around cooling holes, or discovering that the anode has been completely consumed. Keeping the anode in good condition prevents costly cylinder and cylinder head repairs that require major disassembly and prolonged boat shutdowns.
