The dual-plate sacrificial anode acts as a cathodic protector for the outboard motor, absorbing galvanic corrosion that would otherwise affect the motor's structural metal components. This component operates within the anti-corrosion protection system, being especially critical in saltwater or brackish water environments where electrochemical activity is more aggressive. By degrading in a controlled manner, the anode sacrifices its mass to preserve vital components such as the motor housing, shaft, and propeller.
