This three-blade aluminum propeller, with a diameter of 9.30 inches and a pitch of 9 inches in right-hand rotation, acts as the final element in the power transmission chain for outboard motors, converting engine torque into hydraulic thrust on the water. It belongs to the AMITA3 series by Solas Propeller and is precisely sized so that Johnson and Evinrude four-stroke motors of 9.9 and 15 HP of the 302 cc series operate within their design RPM range, avoiding both crankshaft overload and overspeed. The marine aluminum alloy used in its construction combines structural rigidity with impact absorption capacity, making it especially suitable for recreational vessels, coastal fishing and inshore applications where the risk of contact with shallow bottoms or floating debris is common. An incorrect pitch—either too high or too low for the application—forces the motor to work outside its optimal RPM band, increasing fuel consumption, shortening the engine's service life, and reducing acceleration capability during maneuvering.
When to Replace This Part?
The clearest signs that the propeller requires inspection or replacement are: perceptible vibrations in the transom or throttle control during navigation, loss of top speed or throttle response without any apparent engine failure, and excessive cavitation visible as bubbles or irregular swirls around the blades. Any impact with a submerged object—however minor it may seem—can produce bends or nicks in the blades that dynamically unbalance the assembly, generating lateral loads on the propeller shaft and water seal that, if ignored, lead to costly damage in the lower gearbox. It is recommended to visually inspect the propeller at the beginning of each boating season and after any grounding or collision; replacing it at the slightest deformation is the most economical preventive measure to protect the entire engine transmission.
