Description

Function and technical context

This zinc anode acts as cathodic protection in Suzuki outboard motors, sacrificing itself electrochemically to preserve the most valuable metal parts of the powertrain – reducer housing, shaft, cavitation and tail components – against galvanic corrosion caused by salt, brackish or fresh water. Made of high-purity zinc, it is the ideal material for use in marine and salt waters, where galvanic corrosion acts more aggressively on the aluminum alloys characteristic of Suzuki engines. Its correct operation prevents progressive structural damage to the tail of the engine that can lead to serious breakdowns and costly repairs at the dock. It directly replaces references 55125-90J00, 55125-90J01, 55125-93J00 and others indicated, covering a very wide range of engines from the DF60/DF70 series to the DF300.

When to replace this part?

The most obvious symptom of exhaustion of a zinc anode is the reduction of its mass by more than 50%: when the anode appears eroded, reduced to less than half its volume or with hardened and inactive surfaces, it must be replaced immediately. It is recommended to inspect the anodes at least once a season - preferably during beached maintenance or at each annual check - and replace them preventively before they are completely used up, since a consumed anode leaves the aluminum parts of the engine unprotected against electrolysis. Changing the anode on time is the most economical and effective maintenance intervention to prevent corrosion of the conical group and tail, prolonging the useful life of the outboard motor.
